WHAT IS THE BACK IN THE SADDLE TINY TRAININGS CHALLENGE?

For 30 days, starting Monday April 25th I'm going to present you with a daily training challenge with your horse, that can be completed in between 5 and 10 minutes.

You will get the challenge on email and if you want, you can join the challenge facebook group, where the challenges will also be posted, you can share your progress and ask questions.

You don't have to do every training to participate in the challenge, but I encourage you to do as many as you can. The important aim of the challenge is to get you to do something meaningful with your horse that also helps boost your confidence and makes your horse an even better partner.

All the trainings can be done from the ground, and most of them can also be done while riding, long reining or even driving.

The aim of the challenge is to help unconfident, anxious or nervous riders gain confidence and motivation, but you're very welcome to join even if it's just to get a motivation boost.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE

Thousands of riders suffers from anxiety and lack of confidence. It takes away the joy of being around the horse, and eventually ends up in either sale of the horse or him becoming a super expensive and still time consuming lawn ornament. I can help you turn that vicious circle around, so you and your horse can become happy partners.

PRACTICAL EXERCISES EASY TO USE

I'm a riding instructor, not a therapist or coach. That makes my approach very holistic, as I focus both on you AND your horse. In order to regain true confidence, you need to be able to trust your horse, and no amount of therapy can take you there, if your horse is still unsafe to ride. So training of both of you is equally important!

PARTICIPATION MADE SIMPLE

The challenge consists of a daily video with an exercise you can do with your horse. The exercises can be done with whatever tack and equipment you usually use (remember always wear a helmet when riding!), having a few poles available and some flat ground to train on will be handy, but I'll make alternative suggestions for those of you who doesn't have this.

You're not alone!

Being scared, nervous or anxious while riding is a lot more common than most people think. It affects all kind of riders from beginners to pros, hobby riders to competitive riders across disciplines and nationalities.

The causes can be many - among others:

  • Spooking horse
  • Disaster thoughts
  • External stress factors
  • Spectators
  • Physical ailments
  • Falling off
  • Bolting horse
  • Unspecific anxiety
  • Competition nerves
  • Young or green horse

Who is Merete Stenner and why is the Back in the Saddle program so special?

The program differs from most other offers to anxious, scared or nervous riders, because it focuses on both you and your horse.

You can use all the mental training in the world, but if your horse is still rationally unsafe to ride, it won't make you feel safe or make your rides enjoyable. You can also have the worlds most safe horse, but if your mind is still full of disaster thoughts you won't feel safe and happy either.

So the Back in the Saddle program focuses on giving you all the pieces to the puzzle instead of just one.

Merete Stenner is a professional riding instructor, horse trainer and author.

Meretes main focus over the past 9 years has been helping riders regain their confidence on horseback, both live and online.

In 2019 the she got the book Tryg til hest (Confident on horseback) published from one of the biggest Danish publishing houses.

The principles presented in the book is the same the Back in the Saddle program is built on.
